Health Studies

Term 2

Equality - is about fairness.  Put simply is the idea that no matter who you are, you have the same equal chances and opportunities as the next person.  However…
Diversity means difference - no two people on Earth are the same.  Therefore giving the same treatment to all will not create equality; what one person finds easily achievable, might be more challenging for another.  Sometimes it's not the person themselves; it's the people around them that can make it difficult to achieve something.
So; put Equality and Diversity together and it's all about making a level playing field for everyone to have a chance, no matter who they are, even if that means tailoring services differently to make them accessible to all.

Respect for Equality and Diversity extends to everyone, but specifically, the Trust will monitor the following areas to review quality and consistency.
equality-and-diversity-imag_v_Variation_5Sexual Orientation   - this includes individuals who are straight or not.

equality-and-diversity-imag_v_Variation_5Race / Ethnicity  -  Wherever one was born, wherever their parents came from, whatever the colour of their skin, they have a right to be treated fairly and be protected against racial discrimination and prejudice.

Health, Safety and Security in Health And Social Care
Term 1

About....

Health and Social Care is a term that relates to integrated services that are available from health and social care providers. It can also mean a range of vocational and academic courses which can be taken at various academic and vocational levels certified in the United Kingdom as GNVQ ( General National Vocational Qualifications ),  A-Level to degrees.

As a subject discipline, Health and Social Care (H&SC) combines elements of sociology, biology, nutrition, law, and ethics. Typically, students of Health and Social Care will have a work placement alongside their academic studies; such a placement may take place in a nursery, residential home, hospital, or other caring establishment. Others may take a health and social care course as a route to further qualifications hoping that it will lead to employment within the sector.

Depending on their qualification, students may start off as care assistants and develop care pathways to become doctors, nurses, social workers, physiotherapists, counselors, psychotherapists, Paramedics or a range of other related occupations.

H&SC can be studied in schools and colleges from Key Stage 4/GCSE Level (age 14-16), Colleges and can also be studied in some universities.
